Below are some answers to questions commonly asked by visitors to the club.
- Do I have to do footwork?
Footwork is optional, but is usually taken by one of the coaches, and we would reccomend taking part as it is extremely useful.
- What's the difference between steam fencing and electric fencing?
Steam fencing involves fencing with a weapon whilst wearing just a jacket. If you fence electrics, your weapon is connected to a wire which connects to your lame, a metallic jacket that conducts electricity. This is then attached to a box. When the box is turned on, if you are hit, or make a hit during a match, the box will light up, making scoring easier and more accurate than by steam fencing. Electric fencing is just as safe as steam fencing.
- Where can I buy fencing kit?
The club regularly orders kit from Leon Paul. Club members can order through the club for a 10% discount. To do this, speak to John Blenkinsopp. Other sites that sell fencing kit can be found here. |
